The LandTrust has established an important partnership with Catawba College’s Center for the Environment The two have worked together t preserve nearly 500 acres at both the Catawba College Ecological Preserve and the South Yadkin Wildlife Refuge. In addition, the LandTrust staff members teach courses at the Center for the Environment, while students gain first-hand experience in land conservation through an intern program with The LandTrust.

The LandTrust initially grew out of a regional sustainable development plan that focused on finding a balance between environmental and economic issues along the Yadkin-Pee Dee River and in the Uwharrie Lakes Region. The Yadkin-Pee Dee Lakes Project continues to be an important partner in promoting eco-tourism and sustainable growth in this part of NC.
